The Farberware FDW05 is the best overall countertop dishwasher we tested. It's the quietest in its class at 52 dB, handles 5 place settings, and has 6 wash programs including a high-temp sanitize cycle.

Pros

  • Quietest model at 52 dB
  • 6 wash programs including sanitize
  • Strong spray arm coverage
  • LED display with cycle time remaining
  • Child safety lock

Cons

  • Faucet adapter doesn't fit all pull-out faucets
  • Only 5 place settings, not 6
  • Slightly wider than budget models

Who is it for?

The Farberware FDW05 is the best pick for someone who cooks daily in a studio apartment or small kitchen. The quiet 52 dB cycle means you can run it while watching TV or on a work call. The 6 programs cover everything from a quick glass rinse to a full sanitize cycle for cutting boards and baby items.

It's not ideal if you need to clean large pots or if your faucet is a non-standard pull-out style. But for everyday dishes for one to two people, this is the strongest all-around option in its price range.

Cleaning performance

We loaded it with baked-on oatmeal, greasy dinner plates, cups with coffee stains, and glasses with lip residue. After a Normal cycle, all items came out clean. The spray arms reach the back corners of the rack better than most budget models, which often leave the back row spottier.

On the Heavy cycle, we tested plates with 12-hour old food. It cleared about 95% of it. The remaining 5% was hardened rice stuck right at the spray shadow of a stacked bowl. That's good performance for a countertop unit.

Noise level

We measured 52 dB during the main wash cycle. That's the quietest of the five models we tested. You can hold a conversation at normal volume in the same room. You'll hear a soft water-movement sound, but it's not intrusive.

Water use

The Normal cycle uses about 3.2 gallons. The Quick cycle uses around 2.5 gallons. The Heavy cycle uses up to 4 gallons. Compare that to the average hand washing run of 15 to 27 gallons, and the math is easy. Running this machine once per day saves an estimated 4,000 to 8,000 gallons of water per year.

Setup and installation

Setup takes about 10 minutes. The box includes two faucet adapters, a hose, and clear instructions. The adapter we used fit a standard Moen kitchen faucet without issue. The drain hose reaches our sink easily from the counter edge.

Verdict

The Farberware FDW05ASBWHA earns its Editor's Pick. It's the quietest, has the best spray coverage, and comes with a full set of programs. If you're only going to buy one countertop dishwasher, this is it.
